January 7th: First Impressions
#1: What have I been doing these past two days: I've finished my first day of internship and I'm ready to start again tomorrow with even more enthusiasm than before. My internship schedule is different as I do not work on Wednesdays (rather I do the work at home and bring it in the following day), however, despite it being only the first day I've started, I have already done a fare amount to help out the San Diego Writer's Ink company. The first thing I did was as any newcomer would do, familiarize myself with the area and the place around it. I first put handouts and promotional postcards in the different areas around the Writers Ink, and it helped me get to know the businesses that they work with. After that, I worked on taking voicemails making sure that they get back to with all the information they need, making copies of papers and filling them out with the correct dates, and marketing. Marketing is where I go online to three different websites (UT, NTC, or the Liberty Station Site itself) and post the next month set of dates for the writing courses they have there at San Diego Writer's Ink. Once I get the flow of the workplace I'll be able to keep myself busy.
#2 Any new skill sets that you know you'll need to work on: A skill set that I need to work on is marketing because it is one of my main tasks at my internship at the moment; knowing how to everything correct the first time because it goes on the San Diego Writers Ink website for being who are looking for the course that they planned. I also need to have a skill set of managing time; I work from 12:00 to 4:00 almost everyday (Not Wednesdays), so I have to learn how to finish things before the time for my hours is up. It'll be a challenge at times when I have a major task to do, but I am sure I can get it done.
#3 Any likes and/or dislikes that I have experienced within the day?: So far, there is nothing I dislike about the internship. Internship has already taught me to communicate with others when I need help or need something in general (with people my age and above). As I continue to work there, I know that I will continue to learn that will come in handy in the future.
